At Clinic Copenhagen on Amager, we see clients every week who want their filler dissolved. Some have had treatment elsewhere and aren't happy. Others have lived with their filler for years and want to return to their original appearance. And some have experienced an unexpected complication — a lump, a migration, an asymmetry — that needs correction. It's a perfectly reasonable decision to make.

What is Hyalase?
Hyalase is an enzyme that occurs naturally in the body. It breaks down hyaluronic acid — the substance most modern fillers are made from. When we inject Hyalase into an area with filler, the filler dissolves within a short time, and your body absorbs it as part of its normal tissue turnover.
It's important to understand that Hyalase only works on hyaluronic acid fillers. That includes the most commonly used products on the Danish market — Restylane, Juvederm, Belotero, Stylage and similar. Permanent fillers or fillers based on other substances cannot be dissolved with Hyalase.
At our clinic, Hyalase treatment is always under medical supervision by our responsible physician, Per, as it's a prescription treatment.
When do you choose to dissolve your filler?
We typically see five situations where clients choose dissolution:
1. You're not happy with the result
You had filler somewhere else, and it didn't turn out as you hoped. Lips became too large. The cheekbone looks artificial. The corners of the mouth sit differently than expected. This is the most common reason we encounter.
2. You have a lump or swelling that won't go away
Swelling for the first 1–3 days after a filler treatment is normal. But a lump that stays, or swelling lasting weeks, is not. Hyalase can dissolve the specific buildup and normalise the area.
3. The filler has migrated
Migration means the filler has moved from where it was placed. It's especially visible with lip filler, where filler can travel above the lip border and create the “duck look” many people fear. Dissolution can correct it.
4. Asymmetry you want corrected
Mild asymmetries are normal in any face. But if filler has created a visible difference between left and right side, we can dissolve one side or the entire area and create a new, harmonious treatment.
5. You want to return to your original appearance
Some clients have lived with filler for years and simply want their natural face back. That's a perfectly legitimate reason. Filler is a treatment, not a lifelong commitment.
How the treatment works
At your consultation, we review together with our responsible physician Per what needs to be dissolved and how much. We assess what type of filler was used — if you know it from your previous clinic, that helps us, but it's not required.
The treatment itself takes 15–30 minutes, depending on the area. We clean the skin, apply numbing cream where relevant, and inject Hyalase with fine cannulas in precisely the points where the filler should dissolve. Most clients describe it as a light prick — not pain.
For extensive dissolution, or if you have a known allergy to proteins, we may recommend a patch test first. This is a small test dose in the forearm, where we assess the reaction after 20–30 minutes before proceeding with the actual treatment.
What can you expect afterwards?
Effects come quickly. Most people notice visible filler reduction within 1–2 days. The final result — when the area has settled — can be assessed after about 14 days.
Common side effects:
- Mild redness for 1–3 days
- Swelling for 1–3 days
- Mild tenderness in the area
- Possibly minor bruising
Rare side effects:
- Allergic reaction (less than 0.1% of cases)
- Headache or fatigue in the first 24 hours
- Hives or more pronounced swelling
We always offer a free follow-up visit 14 days after the treatment, so we can assess the result together and discuss whether a new filler treatment should be performed — or whether you choose to leave the area as is.
What to avoid for the first 24–48 hours:
- Intense exercise and hot yoga
- Sauna and steam baths
- Alcohol
- Massage on the treated area
- Lying on your stomach or directly on the area
Important safety considerations
Hyalase is a well-tested treatment with a high safety profile, but there are three things you should know:
1. It only works on hyaluronic acid fillers. If you don't know what type of filler you have, we can often assess it from your history and how the area looks. Permanent fillers cannot be dissolved and require surgical removal.
2. Allergy check. A small group of people are allergic to hyaluronidase. We ask about known allergies at the consultation, and when uncertain we do a patch test first.
3. Medical supervision.Hyalase is prescription only and is dispensed by our responsible physician Per. We never perform the treatment without medical assessment — that's your safety.

Frequently asked questions
Does it hurt?
Most people experience it as a light prick. We can apply numbing cream beforehand, and the injections are done with fine cannulas. The pain is typically less than the original filler treatment.
How quickly does Hyalase work?
The effect is visible within 1–2 days. The final result is seen after about 14 days, when the area has settled.
Can I get a new filler treatment right away?
We recommend waiting at least 2–4 weeks after dissolution so the tissue has normalised. At your follow-up visit, we assess together whether you're ready for a new treatment, or whether you prefer to leave the area as is.
Can you dissolve filler from another clinic?
Yes. We regularly treat clients who've had filler elsewhere. We don't need product names or documentation — we assess from the consultation.
Is it safe?
Hyalase is a well-documented treatment with a high safety profile. We always perform it under medical supervision by our responsible physician Per, and we are registered with the Danish Patient Safety Authority (STPS).
