SAFETY

Lip filler and anatomy — safety first

Eva-Fatema · Cosmetic Nurse · February 2026

At Clinic Copenhagen in Amager, safety is always our highest priority. When working with filler in the lips, thorough knowledge of facial anatomy is absolutely essential. Here we share the professional background that ensures safe treatments — because natural and safe results always start with knowledge.

CC Lips lip filler — natural result with focus on anatomy and safety

The most important arteries

The lips are supplied with blood by several important arteries: the superior labial artery (upper lip), the inferior labial artery (lower lip) and the facial artery. These blood vessels run close to the lip tissue, and their position can vary from person to person.

What is the risk?

If filler is inadvertently injected into or around an artery, it can compromise the blood supply to the tissue. In the worst case, it can lead to vascular occlusion.

Our safety protocol

At Clinic Copenhagen, we follow a strict safety protocol to minimize any risk:

  • Thorough knowledge of facial anatomy and arterial pathways
  • Slow injection with small amounts at a time
  • Constant observation of skin colour and response during treatment
  • Aspiration where relevant
  • Always prepared with hyaluronidase (dissolving agent)
  • Thorough pre-examination and documentation before every treatment

Training and registration

We are registered with the Danish Patient Safety Authority and maintain our professional competencies through ongoing continuing education. Safety always comes before aesthetics.

Frequently asked questions

Is filler dangerous?

Filler treatment is generally safe when performed by a qualified and experienced practitioner with thorough anatomical knowledge.

What is vascular occlusion?

Vascular occlusion occurs when filler blocks a blood vessel and cuts off the blood supply to an area. If treated quickly with hyaluronidase, the damage can be minimized.

How do you ensure safety?

Through thorough education, ongoing continuing education, strict protocol during treatment and always having hyaluronidase ready.
